When my Indonesian friend Roy arrived in Paris, we embarked on a walking tour to help him adjust to the time difference. Our journey began at Saint-Eustache and the Nelson Mandela Garden, passing through the modern Bourse de Commerce and Fondation Pinault. We wandered along Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau and entered the Louvre Courtyard through Rue de l’Amiral Coligny.
From there, we admired the famous Cour Napoléon and its iconic glass pyramid before heading through the Carrousel and into the Tuileries Garden. Continuing, we reached Place de la Concorde, walked up Rue Royale to La Madeleine, and then arrived at the Opéra Garnier. A well-deserved drink awaited us on the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette. We then strolled down Rue du 4 Septembre to the Bourse. Followed by Rue des Petits Carreaux and Rue Montorgueil before concluding our journey back at Saint-Eustache.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, our walks were limited to a 1-kilometer radius from home. I made the most of it by testing the limits of my new cage! But you can do it on your own, it will make you walk through many nice places in the hearth of Paris. Starting at Nelson Mandela Garden, I crossed Pont Neuf and followed the Seine, entering the Louvre through the Carrousel. I then wandered through the Palais Royal Gardens, passing the historic Bibliothèque Nationale on Rue Richelieu.
From there, I walked up to the Grands Boulevards and continued toward Place de la République. Heading down Rue du Temple, I reached Hôtel de Ville, through Le Marais. I then looped back along Rue du Renard past the Centre Pompidou before finishing my walk at Les Halles and Saint-Eustache.
This walk explores the Left Bank’s historic charm. Beginning at Hôtel de Ville, I crossed the Seine to admire Notre-Dame before following Rue Saint-Jacques. Passing landmarks like the Collège de France, Lycée Louis-le-Grand, and La Sorbonne, I reached the Panthéon. From there, I wandered through the Luxembourg Garden and stopped at Saint-Sulpice and Saint-Germain-des-Prés. I then followed Rue Bonaparte to the Institut de France before crossing Pont Neuf. The walk continued past La Conciergerie and Sainte-Chapelle, leading me across Pont au Change. Finally, I arrived at Place du Châtelet, with a stop at Tour Saint-Jacques, before returning to Hôtel de Ville.
Starting at Place de la République, this cycling route follows the Canal Saint-Martin, offering a scenic ride past bridges and houseboats. Arriving at Bassin de la Villette, we took Rue de Crimée to reach Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, one of Paris’ most picturesque parks. From there, we rode through Belleville, explored Père Lachaise Cemetery, and looped back to République.
This route starts at Place de la Bastille, following the Coulée Verte and Avenue Daumesnil towards Bois de Vincennes. We rented a boat on Lac Daumesnil, enjoyed a lakeside picnic, and finished at Château de Vincennes. For a convenient return, the RER offers a quick trip back into central Paris.
Beginning at Place de la Concorde, this ride follows the Seine’s right bank, passing Palais de Tokyo and Trocadéro before heading up Avenue George Mandel. A relaxing boat ride on the Bois de Boulogne lake provided a break before continuing through the park to Fondation Louis Vuitton. The return route took us past Place Dauphine, Avenue Foch, the Arc de Triomphe, and down the Champs-Élysées back to Concorde.
A short RER ride transports visitors to Versailles, where they can explore the opulent palace, stroll through the vast gardens, and admire the Hall of Mirrors. Renting a bike to explore the Grand Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet offers a different perspective on the estate.
