Your holidays are coming. You already decided to come and visit Corfu, and you already chose how to get to Corfu. Now you are wondering what to do in Corfu — and you have plenty of options: going to the beach, hiking in the mountains, visiting museums or scuba diving. Read on for some ideas.

I’ve been exploring Corfu for over a decade from my villa on the island’s northeast coast, so most of what follows comes from doing it myself — the beaches I keep coming back to, the dive shop I use, the boats I rent. For where to base yourself, see my guide on where to stay in Corfu.

Most of these activities are spread around the island and poorly served by buses, so a rental car makes a big difference. Prices rise in high season, so book ahead — I use DiscoverCars to compare car hire deals at Corfu (CFU) airport, which searches all the local and international agencies at once.

What are the best beaches in Corfu?

There are beaches everywhere. But my favorite beaches are on the north coast. Basically, the closer you are to Corfu Town, the more crowded and organized the beaches.

Kassiopi and around

Kassiopi is a small port 45 minutes away from Corfu Town. You will find many options there. I like very much Bataria beach at walking distance from the port, and Agios Stefanos beach for a nap after a good lunch. But if you prefer bigger beaches you can go to Avlaki beach or Agios Spiridon. Or rent a boat and explore all the small coves around by yourself.

Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is on the west coast, only a 30-minute drive from Corfu Town, and 40 minutes from Acharavi. Beach clubs in secluded coves, traditional beaches with sunbeds and umbrellas, or secret beaches accessible only with your own boat — you will find all of that!

Porto Timoni

THE iconic beach of Corfu with its double bay, Porto Timoni deserves a visit wherever you stay. One hour drive from Corfu Town, but only 30 minutes from Acharavi. From there you still need to take a boat or hike down to the beach.

Peroulades

You will find some incredible beaches around Peroulades: Logas Beach, overlooked by a 30-metre-high cliff, and Canal d’Amour, carved into a limestone cliff that changes shape every year.

Hiking in Corfu

A very comprehensive book of Corfu walks lists about 100 walks and hikes all around the island, most of them in the north around Mount Pantokrator. During the summer, it is best to hike in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest hours of the day.

Old Perithia is a good starting point if you want to hike up Mount Pantokrator itself. You can get refreshments or food there before or after your hike, and the village itself deserves a visit.

Visiting Corfu Museums

You will find most of the museums and historical sites in Corfu Town. The nicest place to visit is the Achilleion, built in 1890 for Empress Elisabeth of Austria (known as Sissi), and therefore often called the Sissi Palace. In Corfu Town it is also worth visiting the Museum of Asian Art, housed in the Palace of St. Michael and St. George. Archaeology enthusiasts can head to the Archaeological Museum, the largest on the island. There are also lovely sights nearby such as the castle of Angelokastro and the monastery of Paleokastritsa.

Scuba diving

There are several dive shops in Corfu. I personally dived with Dive Easy. The shop is in Acharavi and their boat is in Kassiopi. They go diving to many different dive sites on the northeast coast. Don’t expect to see many fish, but the water is super clear and they can bring you into nice caves or to some wreck diving.

You will enjoy nice and warm water all summer. And in September and October, the sea has been warmed up over the whole summer and there is no thermocline — the temperature stays warm as deep as you can dive!

Renting a boat in Corfu

Renting a boat is probably one of the coolest ways to discover hidden coves and beaches. You can rent a boat pretty much everywhere, but my favorite places to do so are at Kassiopi with Filippos Boats, or at Paleokastritsa at La Grotta.

Easter celebrations

Easter is the most important religious holiday for the Orthodox, and the holiday par excellence for the Greeks! In 2027, Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on May 2. If you are in Corfu around then, you cannot miss the celebrations. There are many processions on Good Friday (April 30), and on Holy Saturday (May 1), at 11 am, people throw large clay pots filled with water from the top-floor balconies of their buildings!

On a rainy day, head to Corfu Town: wander the UNESCO-listed old town, visit the Museum of Asian Art and the Archaeological Museum, or tour the Achilleion palace. A long lunch in a traditional taverna is also a very Corfiot way to wait out the weather.

How many days do you need in Corfu?

Four to five days is enough to enjoy the main beaches, visit Corfu Town, and do a hike or a boat trip. With a week you can explore both the north and the west coast at a relaxed pace and add a diving day.

Is Corfu good for families?

Yes. Corfu has sandy, shallow beaches ideal for children (such as Glyfada and the beaches around Kassiopi), calm bays on the northeast coast, easy boat trips, and plenty of family-friendly tavernas. A rental car makes it easy to reach the quieter, safer beaches.
